ALVESTA REVITALISATION: STORGATAN PROJECT
Alvesta is situated in the cross section of all major railway routes in the south of Sweden and, as a result, over 5000 people are passing through Alvesta every day. Trough extensive research and interviews of the locals and visitors, we discovered that the majority of the people travelling to Alvesta are not leaving the confines of the train station as the town itself is lacking in culture, activities and most of all, identity. This project looks at these pressing issues and addresses them with a design solution. By redesigning the main street of the Swedish small town Alvesta, to a pedestrian only street, closed to vehicle traffic, in order to attract locals and visitors with an ever changing, vibrant and cultural centre. By working with Alvesta Kommun and providing a space with a pedestrian focus, we can create a safe and welcoming environment for young families and elderly people as well as generate more foot traffic for the local businesses and boutiques. The space will be flexible and forever changing with a strong focus on Swedish culture.
